MOTORISTS are being urged to be vigilant after police received reports of people selling jewellery in a scam on the M61.

Officers from the North West Motorway Police said people have been seen trying to wave traffic down at motorway slip roads.

They tweeted: "We have had reports of jewellery sellers on the M61. If you see someone trying to wave traffic down mainly on slip roads at junctions, don't stop, this is a scam, they will try to get money off victims.

"Call us if you think someone needs help."

Anyone with information can call police on 101.
