VANDALS set fire to fencing in Queens Park just weeks after it was given a multi-million pound transformation.
Walkers said they discovered bins had been trashed and fires deliberately started.
A spokesman for Bolton Council said: “We can confirm that a temporary fence was set alight.
“It’s always disappointing to see our beautiful parks vandalised and we and the police welcome information on any other acts of vandalism in Bolton’s parks and public spaces.”
The historic Queens Park received the prestigious Green Flag Award — the Oscar for green spaces — last month after a project to restore and enhance it in keeping with its Victorian design.
The transformation is part of a £5.3 million project funded by Bolton Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Work included dredging lakes, reinstating walls and fountains, a new play area and opening a new café.
