A TRIO of Radcliffe businessmen has been named among the top Movember fundraisers in the country.

Three colleagues at forensic accounting and insolvency firm, Inquesta, have raised £4,000 for the men’s health campaign by growing moustaches during the month of November.

One of the trio, administrator David Vallance, has overcome prostate cancer after being diagnosed in 2010 following a routine health check.

His colleagues who undertook the Movember Challenge with him as Team Vallance were company director Steven Wiseglass and manager David Howard.

Donations from friends, relatives, business contacts and Inquesta enabled the trio to be ranked in the top 50 Movember fundraisers across the whole of the UK.

Mr Vallance, aged 62, said: “We’ve received tremendous support and if the money we have raised can help to save even one life, it will be worth every penny.

“I was diagnosed with prostate cancer six years ago, and underwent major surgery shortly afterwards.

“I had a further operation in 2012, and then in November last year had a scare which meant having a course of radiotherapy, but I am doing okay again.”

The Movember campaign raises funds and awareness for men’s health issues such as prostate and testicular cancer and mental health and has raised over £400 million worldwide since its creation in 2003.

Prostate cancer is one of the most common male cancers and, in the UK, one man dies from the disease every hour.

Inquesta, based in New Road, has a policy of supporting a different charity each month and is currently a drop-off point for people wishing to donate to Key 103's Mission Christmas campaign to collect new, unwrapped toys for disadvantaged youngsters.

Mr Vallance added: “It’s vital that prostate and testicular cancer are diagnosed early, and therefore the research funded by the Movember Foundation is of the utmost importance.

“I would really recommend any man aged over 60 has a health check.”
