A SPECIAL event is helping to the hidden stars among Bolton’s young community shine.

Two organisations in the town have joined forces to give youngsters, who would not normally have the opportunity, experience in performing arts and media.

Tomorrow the talented trainees will be hitting the stage to show off their musical and performance skills at a free to attend celebration.

Organised by Insyt Media Productions and Xpress Urself CIC — which run arts-based workshops and projects in the borough — it will be the first time many of its stars have taken to the stage.

Xpress Urself founder Ryan O’Sullivan said: “We decided to put on a Christmas event to showcase some of the work we have done together over the last six months.

“It’s amazing to have a proper big event with a stage and lights. It is one of the biggest events these young people have been involved in. Some of them come from backgrounds where having a chance to perform gives them an opportunity to change their lives. They are not holding their disadvantage against them. We are hoping this is the beginning of something which will last a long time.”

The evening will present a selection of young artists of all ages, including singers, poets, band and rappers. There will be an opportunity to meet and greet Insyt and Xpress session tutors, volunteers and committee to find out more about the work. Antz Junction, at Commerce House, Bridgeman Place, has donated its facilities for the event will runs from 7pm to 11pm.

Mr O’Sullivan added: “Lots of young people and adults have been donating their own time to help do up the venue. It’s just brilliant to see so many people coming together in the community to provide something positive.”
