PLAYTIMES are set to become a lot more fun at a primary school after children hit the jackpot.

Sharples School pupils successfully bid for £10,000 of Big Lottery Funding to transform the outdoor area into an adventure playground.

The new trim trail was officially opened yesterday (Thursday) in a celebratory event when children tried it out for the first time in front of parents.

Pauline Clark, business manager at the school, said: "The School Council applied for the funding after they 12 months ago gave a pitch to the governing body about having a trail in school.

"The governors agreed.

"The children worked in Partnership with Pentagon to design the trail.

"It looks wonderful, it's all singing all dancing.

As well providing a fun activity to take part in the trim trail is designed to improve health and fitness of the children by increasing their physical activity levels.

The trail is also designed for children who have sight impairments as the school has specialist sources for children who are visually impaired.

Work on it started in mid-November after the school was awarded the grant in September.

Yesterday parents were invited in at certain times to watch their children have fun on the equipment and find more about its benefits for all children.

The school was one of a number of Bolton organisations to benefit from the lottery funding.

Hardy Mill Primary School in Harwood received almost £10,000 to install a trim trail on the school field.

The Oaks Primary School in Sharples received just over £9,000 to develop its outdoor play area to benefit the children and people in the community.
