DOUGIE Freedman says results will determine how long he remains manager of Nottingham Forest – not the length of his contract.

The Scot's role at the City Ground was placed in the spotlight ahead of the visit of his former club Wanderers today with Forest owner Fawaz Al Hasawi revealing his appointment runs initially to the end of the season.

But the length of the deal does not concern Freedman who admits the longer contract he was on with the Whites may have ultimately been his downfall as he took his time to try and bring the good times back to the Macron – ultimately without success.

Freedman said: "I would love to be here for as long as possible.

"How long is that? If I keep winning matches it will be longer, if I don’t it will be shorter.

“It does not concern me. At Palace I worked with no contract at all for six months. From the minute I took over until I had saved from them from relegation, I did not have a contract.

“Maybe that has put me in a mindset where I just focus and work with players.

"The contract at Bolton was a lot stronger and longer and might have caused me to sit back – but I worked harder than I ever have in my life to get things right.

“I don’t think the (contract) situation will affect me. As a manager, I don’t wake up in the night with hot sweats because the contract says ‘A, B or C’. I only wake up if a player is injured or if he is not performing. That is what I do.

“It might be wrong, but that is the way I am.

“If I win games of football, that will keep me in a job.”
