WANDERERS suffered their first Championship defeat of the season at the City Ground and it was a comprehensive beating for Dougie Freedman's Whites.

Their cause was not helped by a red card for midfielder Darren Pratley just eight minutes into the second half moments after veteran Andy Reid had double Forest's advantage.

But despite their dogged display after going down to 10 men, Wanderers were never in with a chance of rescuing a point and the hosts went on to net a third through Henri Lansbury.

The win for Billy Davies' men was their third in a row and took them top of the embryonic league table.

Summer signing Jamie Mackie gave them a great start after just two minutes, sweeping the ball across Wanderers keeper Adam Bogdan after good work from Polish midfielder Radoslaw Majewski fed the £1-million man.

Wanderers had chances of their own with a Craig Davies header and a Rob Hall shot just off-target.

Pratley was yellow-carded for elbowing Adlene Guedioura and minutes after Reid had finished emphatically from six yards early in the second period, the Whites midfielder lunged in late on Chris Cohen and referee Mark Haywood, who initially played the advantage, went back to show a second yellow and a subsequent red.

Twelve minutes later, the contest was all but wrapped up as Lansbury dived low to head in at the far post from Mackie's teasing cross.

It left Freedman's side without a win in their first three games after drawing at Burnley on the opening day and following that up with another 1-1 draw on home soil against Reading.
