MIDDLESBROUGH manager Aitor Karanka hopes Saturday’s surprise 1-0 home defeat to Leeds will be quickly forgotten when his side run out against Wanderers tonight.

A third home reverse of the season saw Boro lose at the Riverside for the first time since late August.

The Spaniard will be eager to avoid a fourth and, like his opposite number Neil Lennon, wants a response to defeat from his team.

Karanka said: “It’s the best thing that we’ve got another game because this team always has a very good reaction after a defeat.

“We work very well after a setback and I think the best thing is we are at home.

“When we have had problems or have lost a game the following game we have always been good and I am expecting a similar reaction.”

Karanka has been dealt a blow with the loss of concussed front man Jelle Vossen for tonight’s game but he welcomes back winger Mustapha Carayol into the squad after a lengthy lay-off of just under a year with a cruciate knee ligament injury.

Boro winger Albert Adomah is likely to start while Carayol could be on the bench.

And Adomah also wants to get back on track in the hunt for promotion against the Whites.

He said: “We’re a bit disappointed losing to our rivals Leeds, we tried our best but unfortunately we lost.

“Hopefully we can kick on against Bolton.

“We knew we were top of the table and would’ve been four points clear but now we can only look forward to the next game and hopefully get three points from that.

“Everyone’s disappointed but first and foremost we know there’s another game coming so we have to brush this one aside and look forward to Bolton.”

l Wanderers under-21s slipped to a narrow 3-2 defeat at West Bromwich Albion yesterday.

Tom Eaves and Luke Woodland got goals as Iain Brunskill’s side fought back from 2-0 down but the Baggies clinched a win by scoring a third late on in a match that also saw Slovenian defender Matija Boben start for the Whites.
