Public duty

I CANNOT believe the scandalous amount of taxpayers' money that is paid to councillors who have volunteered to do a public duty.

To warrant a pay rise in industry, it usually means good results have been achieved, but it doesn't seem to be the case in Bolton Council, especially for areas like Farnworth.

Considering Farnworth is one of the most deprived and run-down towns in the country, how can the three councillors - Spencer, Johnston and Stones - warrant £23,202 total expenses while our council tax soars?

That amount of money would go a long way to improving the state of the town, and it doesn't need a council meeting to work that out.

One wonders if it is in the true spirit of civic pride that some people volunteer for these positions, or just to line their own pockets with easy money. I suspect the latter.
