A BOLTON financial adviser is set to bike his way across Cuba in a gruelling ride for charity.
David Thornborough, a 35-year-old married father of two, from Turton Heights, Bromley Cross, is teaming up with estate agent Craig Pickles, of Radfield Park, Darwen, for a 250-mile journey which takes place in November over five consecutive days.
The pair have been busy training and raising sponsorship for the National Deaf Children's Society and they are hoping to quickly reach their £5000 target.
Mr Thornborough, who has worked for Allied Dunbar for 10 years, said: "We have been cycling about 35 to 40 miles a week and we did the Manchester to Blackpool bike race, which is about 60 miles.
"But it's for a worthy cause and it will be a gruelling challenge.
"We're both working and training hard and we hope to raise a lot of funds."
A five-a-side football competition has already taken the businessmen one step closer to their fund-raising target after raising £175, an amount that was doubled by the Cheshire Building Society to £350.
Five teams took part in the tournament at Clayton Brook Sports Centre in Chorley.
Henry Knott Financial Advisers won the tournament, beating off challenges from second placed Alan Proctor Estate Agents as well as Smith Hodgkinson McGinty Estate Agents of Chorley, Forbes and Partners Solicitors and the Cheshire Building Society.
A further £1,200 has been raised through a raffle and a '70s night at Marigolds, Darwen.
Anyone interetsed in fundraising can ring David on 01254 592172.
