Cup clash for George and Gregson

Chorley and District Faulkner Motors Alliance Football League GEORGE played Gregson Lane S&S for the second week running. Last week it was a league match, this week it was a cup clash in the Northern Electrical Consultants Trophy Second Round.

As last week, George just had the edge in the striker department. It was a fairly even game, but George took their chances better.

They were one up at half-time and added three more in the second half to win 4-0.

The scorers for George were Atherton, Murphy, Morey and Higgins.

Eagle had a comfortable 8-2 win in the cup against CFC Adlington. The scorers for Eagle were Prince (3), Russell (3) and Jolly (2).

Leyland Hotspur found their opponents in the cup, Market Tavern, in much improved form after a shaky start to the season.

They were in the lead at half-time by two goals to one, but Tavern could have been in front if they had taken their chances.

Two careless errors by the Tavern goalkeeper in the second half gave Leyland Hotspur two more goals for them to win 4-1.

Tavern were by no means outclassed and if they can build on this, better results will come. Leyland Hotspur scorers were Halton, Double, McCloughlin and Coulton while Whisker replied for Market Tavern.

Jerry's have been having a problem getting a team together and have found it necessary to resign so Euxton Saints get a walk-over into the next round.

All games next Saturday have been called off due to international matches!
