I am fed up of reading letters from people complaining that there are no toilets in Bolton.
The last one on Friday implied that there are none within range of the Town Hall Square. If I were looking for a toilet in that vicinity, I would be considering which direction I wanted to continue in afterwards before making my choice.
The favourite (ladies only) is the one in Old Hall Street. Alternatives would be: inside the Library building; in Crompton Place; in The Gates; on Nelson Square. All these are just a few minutes walk from the Town Hall. In other areas there are toilets in Morrisons supermarket; in Sainsburys supermarket; inside The Market Place; in Debenhams and in Marks and Spencer; in the indoor area of the open market and on the bus station. I agree that there are areas of the town centre where there is little provision, in particular the bus/rail interchange which is the first place many visitors see. The last time I was at the railway station the toilets on the platforms were also closed. But, my point is, that there are several toilets available to shoppers during the day. And, at night, when these are closed the places people have gone to visit (pubs, theatres, restaurants etc ) have their own facilities. I have visited other towns and have not found more public toilets there. Even in Blackpool, during the illuminations, the public toilets are closed after 8pm (and you have to pay to use them when they're open).
