  • Firefighters put out a plea: Help us buy a fire engine!

AN ambitious bid to buy a fire engine and set up a "999" service in a remote Romanian village needs backing from Bolton people. Firefighters will once again travel to Romania in May with the view to setting up a modern fire station later on in the year. But their plans will fall apart unless local people dig deep and help them raise £4,000 to buy an eight-year-old Greater Manchester Fire Service engine. Seven firefighters, most from the Bolton area, will be flying out in spring and three will travel by truck to take vital aid by land. Voluntary groups and those planning charity events are also urged to donate to the cause. The relief journey is becoming a familiar one for local firefighters. Phil Round and Trevor Foulkes first went out to Romania more than 10 years ago. Anyone wanting to donate to the appeal should contact the GMC Fire Service Romania Appeal, at Bolton Central Fire Station, Moor Lane, Bolton, or by conatcting Phil Round on 0161 609 9167 or Trevor Foulkes on 0973 709 495. read more
