Football: Reds draw at the double

Ringmer 0
Redhill 0

Two impressive goalkeeping performances kept both sides at bay on Saturday, as Redhill secured another useful point to pull further away from relegation trouble.

The Reds went close to taking the lead in the 14th minute, when a fine strike from Jon Ducker forced Ringmer keeper Ross Standen to tip the ball over the cross bar.

Reds keeper Chris Roberts then kept out Ringmer's Andy Agutter, before his striker partner Gareth Green saw his close range header sail over the crossbar, as the score remained goalless at the break.

But just two minutes into the second half, Ringmer were awarded a penalty when Matt Breeston was tripped in the Reds box.

Chris Johnson stepped up, but saw his attempt clear the cross bar to let Redhill off the hook.

The lucky escape seemed to inspire the Reds as they stepped up a gear, with Mike Morgan capping a nice move by firing over the cross bar in the 59th minute.

The Reds continued to pile pressure on the Ringmer defence and Morgan again posed a threat when his shot was stopped by the keeper and the rebound was hit wide by Dave Flemming.

Sidley United 1
Redhill 1

A 95th minute equaliser denied Redhill a win against struggling Sidley United in this bank holiday fixture.

The Reds started in confident mood and moved the ball around well in the opening minutes, before taking a deserved lead in the 13th minute.

Ollie West broke into the Sidley area and fed an unmarked Mike Morgan who fired the ball home.

Redhill maintained their pressure on Sidley's defensive third, but the hosts nearly got back on level terms in the 39th minute through Steve Morris, who saw his header kept out by Reds keeper Chris Roberts.

After the break Sidley missed two good opportunities in the 52nd and 59th minute with both attempts flying wide of the post.

Sidley saw another chance missed in the 80th minute when Dave Ward headed over, before Shae Spreafico finally beat Roberts in the fifth minute of injury time when his free-kick from just outside the box sailed over the wall and nestled into the back of the net.
