Why don't they act on noisy neighbours

IT is obvious from the many letters to these pages, and from the escalating number of complaints to the authorities, that noise and noisy neighbours are a major cause of distress.

Sadly those who should be in a position to do something about it all too often shrug their shoulders and say there is nothing they can do, or worse still, have the effrontery to tell those seeking help that they should be more tolerant.

I was deeply saddened by the letter from "Desperate pensioner" who has lived in his Breightmet flat for 25 years, but who is being tormented by nuisance neighbours, housed by Bolton At Home in the same block of flats.

Despite numerous complaints to the local office, "DP" tells us nothing has been done about the loud music and the rubbish and dog dirt in the yard. He was unbelievably advised to move elsewhere.

Why should long-standing tenants be forced out of their homes by nuisance neighbours? Why are nuisance neighbours allowed to be nuisance neighbours?

Desperate Pensioner telephoned me and told me he had had a visit from the local housing manager the day after his letter appeared in the Bolton Evening News.

The rubbish has been moved, but sadly the loud music continues.

How do these people sleep at night? My guess would be -- very much better than "DP" and the many others who suffer, but not in silence alas!

I was deeply saddened by the letter from "Desperate pensioner" who has lived in his Breightmet flat for 25 years, but who is now being tormented by nuisance neighbours, housed by Bolton At Home in their wisdom in the same block of flats.

Despite numerous complaints to the local office, "DP" tells us nothing has been done about the loud music and the rubbish and dog dirt in the yard. He was unbelievably advised to move elsewhere by one inept individual at the office, who should be named, shamed and sacked.

Why should long-standing tenants be forced out of their homes by nuisance neighbours? Why are nuisance neighbours allowed to be nuisance neighbours?

I had a surprise phone call the other evening from "Desperate Pensioner". he told me had had a visit from the local housing manager the day after his letter appeared in the Bolton Evening news. He guessed he was the letter writer.

The rubbish has been moved, but sadly the loud music continues, he told me, along with the shoulder shrugging.

How do these people sleep at night? My guess would be -- very much better than "DP" and the many others who suffer, but not in silence alas!
