CHORLEY'S troubles worsened this week when they suffered a second league defeat in three days.
Magpies' supporters were still coming to terms with the shock sacking of Mark Molyneaux last week.
But on Sunday Chorley went down 3-2 at home to Lincoln United and on Monday night crashed 3-1 away at Witton Albion.
Molyneaux's assistant Wayne Goodison, now in charge as caretaker manager, has work to do as the Magpies slip down Unibond League Division One towards the relegation zone.
On Saturday, Lincoln were 2-0 up at half-time. Chorley came out more determined after the interval and pulled a goal back on 48 minutes, David Eatock dispatching Alex Porter's cross with a sweetly struck half volley.
But Lincoln grabbed the decisive third goal after 80 minutes when substitute Miller shot past the advancing Eatock.
Chorley were given a glimmer of hope when substitute Dean Butterworth struck from 25 yards in the 90th minute, but it was too little too late.
There was no respite on Monday when the Magpies went down to a slick Witton side.
The Magpies were reduced to 10 men after half an hour, Lee Southwood receiving a red card after hauling back Moseley.
Chorley found themselves 3-0 down after almost an hour and finally scored in the 90th minute when Butterworth's centre was turned into his own net by Furnival.
Chorley FC chairman, Ken Wright, has insisted the dismissal of manager Mark Molyneaux was purely for footballing reasons.
Magpies fans have bombarded the club's unofficial web site expressing their opposition to Molyneaux's sacking with many speculating that there were other issues involved with the decision to part company with the popular Mancunian.
But Wright told the Citizen the decision to axe Molyneaux was based on the team's disappointing start to the season.
He said: "We are out of both cups and are in a parlous position in the league.
"The team have not been getting the results. It's as simple as that.
"I know the decision is not popular with fans but sometimes tough decisions have to be made."
