Safer cycling for the young

SAFER cycling courses are being held at Philips Sports Centre in Whitefield.

The sessions will take place between until August 11, from 1.30pm to 3.30pm; Monday August 15 to Thursday August 18, from 9.30am to 11.30am; and Monday August 22 to Thursday August 25, from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. The courses, run by Bury Councils road safety unit, cost £6 and are open to children aged 10 or over who have a roadworthy bike.

Mr Paul Birch, principal road safety officer, said: "In the summer, many youngsters are out on their bikes.

"Unfortunately do not always have the necessary skills to deal with today's traffic.

"The courses are designd to increase youngsters confidence and knowledge to enable them to use the roads more safely."
