YOUR article "Hospice Rose Bed To Move At Last" (Bolton Evening News, July 18) spoke of the "problems of vandalism and neglect" which have led to a decision to relocate this memorial garden to Mere Hall.
In fact, when this story was first published some time ago, Friends of Queens Park approached the council and offered to look after the rose garden.
For the past few months, some dedicated volunteers have been out at 10.30am every Sunday morning clearing away weeds so that the beautiful rose bushes planted in memory of loved ones can be seen at their best.
We are pleased to tell you that no further vandalism has occurred, perhaps because the garden is now being regularly maintained, and many people have thanked us for our efforts as they walk past.
If the hospice wishes to have a new memorial garden at Mere Hall as well, I am sure many people will appreciate that.
Your readers should know, however, that the existing rose garden will remain in Queens Park, where it will be well cared for - although more volunteers are always welcome!
