FINANCE and HR specialist recruitment company Four Recruitment has announced it is to begin working with Bury charity, Sam’s Gift.

Sam’s Gift was set to to help teenagers and young adults who are suffering from cancer and was established by Sam’s mother Susan and brothers Tom and Danny Nicholls, following the death of Sam Nicholls at the age of 22 in November 2014 after a short but brave battle against T-cell lymphoma.

Sam’s brother and co-founder of the charity, Tom, explained: “We wanted to do something that not only ensures Sam’s memory lives on, but help other teenagers and young adults in a similar position.

“The positivity that Sam showed throughout treatment is something that we want to encourage in others. In Sam’s memory, we have created Sam’s Gift — a ‘Journey Box’ where hopes, fears and wishes can be expressed, giving them something positive, at a time when it is most needed.”

The Journey Box contains elements enabling those suffering from cancer to put down their thoughts, hopes and dreams together for themselves and their loved ones. The box contains: a letter, journal, photo album, fingerprint jewellery kit, letter writing set and pen, handcrafted “love” pebble, balloon, pen drive (with help sites for young people with cancer).

Four Recruitment’s operations director Phil Sofield said: “We are delighted and honoured to be working with Sam’s Gift. The charity was introduced to us by one of our employees who knew Sam, so it’s a charity close to ours and our staff’s hearts.”

Four has established a salary sacrifice scheme where interested employees sacrifice a proportion of their salary each month which Four then matches. In addition, the company is also assisting Sam’s Gift in the helping co-ordinate a charity dinner at the end of this year.

All proceeds made by the charity go to making the Journey Boxes. Initially, the boxes are being sent to teenagers and young adults, currently battling cancer at The Christie hospital in Manchester, where Sam underwent his treatment, but the charity has plans to extend this.

Tom said: “We have received such an overwhelming response from patients at The Christie that at present we are unable to produce enough boxes to cope with demand. The support that Four is giving us will enable us to not only produce more boxes for patients at The Christie, but to coordinate further events to get even more support, from others enabling us to extend the boxes to other hospitals across the region.”
