Hidden Mill, Falcon Mill, Handel Street, Bolton

About us

We are Hidden Mill, a unique furniture business based in a converted cotton mill in Bolton.

Our furniture collection is hand-carved from solid mahogany meaning each piece is unique. Our products reflect popular historic designs such as Chippendale, French Victorian and Regency.

Our range includes dining chairs, armchairs, sofas and chaises, dining and occasional tables, bedroom furniture, statement mirrors and more.

Our onsite painting/polishing and upholstery workshops enable us to provide customers with a truly bespoke finishing service.

Where it started

We met working at the furniture wholesalers and quickly realised there was a gap in the market to sell this style of furniture retail.

We were given the opportunity to develop a retail outlet.

Customers came into the showroom to look at the furniture frames and could not visualise a completed product.

And after many years of hearing this I decided I wanted to show them, and the initial idea for the website was born.

With technology developing along with my Photoshop skills (and help from my web designer) we decided to create Hidden Mill.

The website launched in February this year.

What makes us unique?

Our website allows you to customize furniture online by selecting your piece, finish and fabric.

You can then watch your vision come to life on screen.

Each piece is then made to order and delivered to your door. You design, we create.

For those who want to paint and upholster themselves we also have an online Etsy and EBay shop selling raw mahogany frames.

Who we are

Charlie Manville, right, and Karin McGuinness are both from Bolton. We met working at the wholesalers and were given the opportunity to open the retail side. I run the website, photography, social media and marketing side of the business and Karin runs sales, operations and accounts. I feel with Karin’s excellent people/business skills and my determination to create something unique, we make the perfect team.

Every week, we will shine a spotlight on a business in Bolton. Just write us an article of no more than 400 words on YOUR business. What is special about it? How long has it been running? Is it successful? Tell us what makes it great and stand out from the rest, along with a picture of yourself and your staff. Please send all copy and pictures to craig.archer@nqnw.co.uk.
