WITH more than 200 stalls to choose from, it can be tricky deciding just which tasty treats to eat.

1) Alain Job’s African street food stall

It’s almost impossible to ignore Alain’s stall at the festival.

The flamboyant chef, who runs Nkono in Bolton Market likes to make a lot of noise about his tasty African street food.

But if that doesn’t pull you in then the smell of his Moroccan lamb, jerk chicken and corn on the cobs smouldering on his grill almost certainly will.

2) The Brati House

Sticking with the meaty theme, this is a stall for those who always make a beeline for the jumbo-sized sausages in German Markets at Christmas time.

Run by 29-year-old Bailey Camfield, from Wakefield, the stall offers bratwurst, spicy currywurst and Polish-style sausage, Krakauer.

3) Hungarian Street Food

This is a new stall at the festival which is already proving popular with the public.

Tim Seed and Tom Moriarty serve up ‘fresh and warm’ Kurtos Kalacs – a 700-year-old street food from the areas around Hungary and Transylvania.

The sweet or savoury treats have a slightly baked crust with a soft warm inside with various fillings and toppings available.

4) The Yeltneb Characters

This stall is one for those with a sweet tooth.

David Bentley creates a range of chocolate-covered fresh fruit characters, with names like Miss Lucy Peach, that prove a hit with children and adults alike.

Mr Bentley came up with idea after leaving University 20 years ago and has been trading ever since.

5) Kettle Corn NYC

Another one for those with a fancy for sweet treats.

Scarborough’s Simon Green cooks up his many varieties of popcorn in a huge kettle at his stall.

Flavours on offer include salted caramel, chocolate, toffee apple and ‘bibble’ – an assortment of all different types.

It’s Mr Green’s first time at the Bolton Food and Drink Festival and is sure to prove a hit over the weekend.

6) Smokies Barbecue

The irresistible smoky smell coming from this stall is bound to draw in the crowds.

It’s run by Manchester mother-and-son team Paul and Tina Latham, who pride themselves on their steak and cheese subs.

They also serve up gourmet beef burgers, wild boar dogs and a backwurst hot dog.

7) Milkmaids

Make ice cream from their dad’s farm in Little Hulton. “Try the Snickers ice cream, it’s beautiful.”

8) Shima Rice ‘n’ Oodles

Try the beef redang and nasi goreng. “These popular Malaysian dishes would feature in any foodie’s top 10 best world dishes. And they’re all halal.”

9) Franca's Pizzeria

They do their own homemade pasta sauces and Italian antipasti. “Try the salsa verdi. It’s produced in Bolton and you can’t even get stuff like this in Italy. They also do a good chocolate chilli cannoli, which is a thin layer of pastry around a filling of chocolate chilli.”

10) Rivington Chocolates

“Try their salted caramel. So rich it’s unbelievable.”

11) Great Ale

The bar in the vaults. Not actually got a stall in the festival, but serving ale from their usual location in the vaults. “Obviously try the Scoop, The Bolton News’ bitter.”

12) Icky Sticky Cake Company

“They do a good mini Victoria sponge, and the mini chocolate cakes are gorgeous.”

13) Red Bank Cider

Local Bolton cider producer, from near Horwich. “It’s definitely worth trying their Red apple cider.”

14) Magnificent Marshmallows

From the Lake District. “I got Michael Caines to try them last year, and he really liked the Saucy Strawberry.”
