I AM pleased that along with some fellow Bolton Councillors I have undertaken ‘Dementia Friends’ training at the Town Hall.

This training was provided by the Alzheimer’s Society a leading campaigning charity. I got awareness raising on what dementia is, how to reduce stigma and how we can help those affected to live with support and in comfort.

Since becoming a councillor a number of people have raised these issues with me, also home adaptations, feeling safe at home and travelling around Bolton.

A recent YouGov poll revealed that 66% of people are worried about either themselves or someone they know developing dementia in later life. There are an estimated 670,000 people in England with dementia and numbers are expected to double within 30 years.

An estimated two thirds of people with dementia live at home and one third live in residential care. There is impressive ‘Purple Angel Dementia Aware’ activity in Bolton by Bolton Dementia Support Group who have signed up over 100 businesses to be ‘dementia friendly’.
