ANGELA Kelly is wrong to suggest in her article that free parking will solve the problems of Bolton's town centre. (Bolton News, July 22)
You cannot compare the shopping experience in small Welsh towns and a small town like Horwich with the situation in Bolton which is probably the biggest town in the country.
What Bolton needs is the large stores and shops which have all deserted the town centre because Bolton Council has allowed it to decline.
Meanwhile, Cllr Morris continues to peddle the myth that the three large car parks in the town centre are free. They are not. NCP and the owner of the Octagon Car Park are in partnership with Bolton Council. They are in business to make a profit. It is obvious that they are not going to forfeit the income and that Bolton Council is paying to make up for that. The Council is thus using taxpayers' money to do that; money which could be put to better use to attract people into the town centre.
