DESPITE the cynical who believe that food banks are for lazy shirkers it’s positive news that local families are being helped by two new not-for-profit shops.
The original Storehouse Pantry Scheme, started at Johnson Fold a year ago, is the blueprint for the ventures in Bolton being operated by Urban Outreach with St Peter’s Church, Halliwell, and Bolton at Home. Those who don’t qualify for food bank vouchers can become members, paying £2.50 per weekly visit to take home a basket of goods worth £15 to £20.
It’s another practical way to help those in need, ensuring people eat properly.
