BARELY a week before the two by-elections in Westhoughton, Bolton's Labour Cabinet have announced that they have 'found' £2.5 million for a one-off capital cash sum for Westhoughton Town Hall — the timing of which seems suspiciously like using taxpayers' money to try to boost their electoral fortunes?

It's all very well for Westhoughton's three Labour councillors to promote what they consider important, but not good enough not to promote what local people consider important — with the footpaths around their Daisy Hill ward an unacceptable patchwork of unsafe 'crazy paving' that is potentially dangerous to all that use them.

All three councillors are seemingly unaware, unconcerned and unwilling to do anything about them (they've been like this for many, many years).

Compared to the town hall funding, repairing these pavements might seem trivial — but to local people they are a priority — but then none of Westhoughton's three Labour councillors (including their Daisy Hill ward election candidate) actually live in Daisy Hill.
