AS a candidate in the Horwich Town Council, Church Ward by-election I ignored the personal attacks and concentrated on my achievements on all of my literature and did not mention any other candidate.
At 1am in the morning, I found myself in the bizarre situation of discussing with colleagues, how best and where to split a pack of shuffled cards in order to get a high card to win an election.
We decided on the top quarter and I split the cards on the Jack of Diamonds. A good card and the odds were in my favour however the Lib Dem candidate then found the Queen of Clubs further down.
I can therefore only congratulate the Lib Dem candidate on retaining the seat in essence by the turning of a playing card. Any less than that Jack and their Town Council seat would have been lost.
Cllr Richard Silvester,
Horwich North East Ward.
