FURTHER to the article which appeared in the Bolton News on Monday, June 12 concerning the Eagley Band, in which it was stated that the “award winning” and “talented” band is looking to recruit new players, including a new Principal Cornet, and that we rehearse at The Last Drop in Bromley Cross, may I take this opportunity, as the band’s Musical Director since last September, both to clarify and stress that, on the contrary, the band has no vacancies whatsoever, we are certainly not looking to recruit any new players at this time nor do we wish to replace our superb Principal Cornet player Geoff Gliddon and the band has rehearsed with me at Smithills School for the past year now.

What appears to have happened by mistake is that information from an old Eagley Band website was lifted by the Bolton News in good faith and printed as being the current situation when, in point of fact, only last weekend I conducted Eagley Band to victory at Ripon Contest in North Yorkshire, the band’s first competition win in seventeen years, as kindly reported in last week’s Bolton News.

On behalf of the band and its many loyal supporters, I wish to apologise publicly to our Principal Cornet player Geoff Gliddon and reassure everyone that Eagley Band has never been in better or more positive shape than it is at present and neither the band members nor myself have stopped smiling since our Ripon victory last weekend!
