MANY of us will welcome the road improvements when completed as reported in Monday and Tuesday's edition of The Bolton News.

I often wonder if there are any plans to regenerate some of our back streets or whether they are out of sight out of mind. After many years of bin lorry action, the setts on the outside are pushed down leaving a very high crown in the centre.

As a result I cannot drive down my back street normally as the crown would damage the undercarriage of the car. Instead, I have to drive down with one set of wheels on the crown and the other set on the pavement.

In addition, the pavements may have looked fine when the surface was first laid down. They now look a crumbling mess with moss, weeds and dirt embedded within. I can remember us as children sitting and playing on the clean paved areas on many occasions. Now this would be impossible.
