THE recent ruling by the Supreme Court on Employment Tribunal fees was a massive result in favour of workers' rights across the UK.
In 2013 the Conservative/Liberal Democrat government introduced Employment Tribunal fees of up to £1,200 for workers seeking justice through the legal system. There is no doubt that this move was designed to give more rights to bad employers and undermine the rights of workers.
For workers who have experienced unfair dismissal or unfair treatment from an employer, an Employment Tribunal case is often their only hope to secure any justice.
Government figures showed the number of cases being taken to tribunal fall by 79% in just three years. People were effectively denied justice based on cost. Well done to my trade union, Unison on taking this case. It is a terrific result for the union but more importantly it is a fantastic result for all workers and their rights.
