IS what you wear for work really suitable for your job?
A new survey of 2,000 Brits found that just under 25 per cent of workers had been called into their manager’s office for “a chat” about their outfits. Men were the worst offenders for unsuitable clothes, in particular shorts and sandals. Women were more likely to be told off for wearing inappropriate outfits like low-cut tops or tight leggings.
The online poll was carried out by clothing company Banana Moon who found that 53 per cent of people now don’t have a specific dress code at work. Many workplaces allow “casual dress” but the reality is that both workwear – and productivity – are better if everyone understands what is and isn’t allowed.
While work uniforms often come in for criticism from those who have to wear them, they’re one easy way of solving the workwear problem. And are probably cheaper.
