DO you feel happy asking for tap water in a restaurant?
Many people feel coerced into buying bottled water rather than having tap water. Now, the Commons Environmental Audit Committee is asking restaurant owners to stop “shaming” diners who want tap water as part of a wider campaign to cut plastic waste.
In some other countries, tap water is automatically served on tables for diners and no-one should be uncomfortable about asking for it. Bottled water, as the Audit Committee pointed out, may come from “far-flung places at great environmental cost” whereas tap water is as good and is free.
