ANDY Burnham's "A Bed Every Night" seems like a good idea, but homelessness is a very complex problem.
Speaking to some of the homeless people on our streets, we get the impression that sleeping on a mattress in a dormitory is not the preferred option.
Many do not like the thought of bedding down in the company of drug addicts and alcoholics.
Some also have distressing mental problems and others are denied access because they have dogs.
There are many empty buildings in the Greater Manchester area which could be converted into suitable accommodation, preferably with individual rooms to give better privacy.
Homelessness seems to be a relatively recent phenomenon and the ultimate blame for this is undoubtedly the Government.
The change to the benefits system, the bedroom tax, and the cut-backs in the mental health service, have all contributed to this.
The Government has created this mess and it should sort it out. Andy Burnham should be getting all the help he needs.
