Pensions have to be defended

I WOULD like to endorse the comments made by Matt Kilsby (Letters, October 13) about the need for action to defend pensions. Local government schemes are not in crisis; they are cash-rich — that is why this government wants to get its hands on them.
Plans to make workers work much longer, pay much more and get much less from their pensioners must be resisted.
I very much welcome moves by Cllr Cliff Morris to support the pension campaign and speak out against the proposals. We need a big yes vote in all the union ballots to ensure we have a clear mandate for action on November 30 and beyond, if necessary.
