RE, the call that public sector workers should call off their strike. This strike is about letting this Government know that, just because they are afraid to face up to the bank bully boys, public sector workers will not pick up the tab for the banks’ greed.
This is not about people living longer, it is about finding a new way to tax public sector workers, not only on their pay, but on their deferred pay — their pension.
As Cllr Walsh apparently doesn’t know, the public sector unions have accepted the arguments about potential underfunding due to members living longer and declared their willingness to negotiate on this basis.
It is disingenuous to suggest the Government has made “proposals”. We are not fooled by the tactical ploy of pretending to make an “offer” on our pension benefits in time to sway some less well informed public sector workers not to strike.
