Where is the evidence, councillor?

I MUST confess to having been more than a little surprised to read Cllr Walsh’s letter (November 8).

Although much of it was run of the mill and to be expected, he did also assert that many public sector workers would receive a larger pension as a result of the intended changes, whilst most would see no difference. Surely this would make the changes a good thing for public sector workers?

Am I the only person who finds the idea of any union anywhere advocating strike action to fight something that would benefit its members to be absolutely bizarre? Never mind that so many unions have balloted for strike action and so many workers have voted overwhelmingly in favour of it.

Even the National Association of Head Teachers has voted in favour of strike action for the first time in its 114 year history.

The Association of Teachers and Lecturers voted in June to strike for the first time in its 127 year history, and the members will be coming out again in November.

Do these sound like rabid, rampant far Left trouble makers to you? Or do they sound like sensible, well informed, sober professionals being pushed to the brink?

Add to that the bizarre fact that I have not read such a statement as Cllr Walsh’s anywhere in the press. I have not seen any political commentator on TV nor heard any on the radio make such a statement. And, to the best of my knowledge, even David Cameron himself has not said anything even vaguely along these lines.

If there is evidence to support Cllr Walsh’s assertion then it would appear that he is the only person privy to it. However, as a union member who did vote in favour of strike action, I would very much like to see this evidence if it does exist.

Therefore I call upon Cllr Walsh to provide his evidence and allow it to be printed in this and all newspapers. Despite my respect for your position as a local political leader, Cllr Walsh, I shall not be holding my breath.
