‘Minutes’ in car park cost £60

WE’VE all done it — pulled up somewhere and waited for someone.

But you might want to be a little more careful now that Parking Eye car park management have taken over a number of our car parks in the Breightmet street area.

The other day I went to drop my car in at a garage in Breightmet Street.

Usually the garage opens at 8.30am, but wasn’t open when I arrived. To avoid clogging up the street I drove my car into the empty Breightmet Street small car park and sat in my car until the garage opened safe in the knowledge that I could move the car if the car park began to fill up.

Since I hadn’t “parked”, I didn’t pay the 90p it would have cost to leave my car there for the 12 minutes I was sat in my car.

The following week I received a parking ticket for £60 through the post with an image of my car. I could understand why they would send me the ticket, so I replied to them enclosing a copy of the garage receipt and explained the above.

Unfortunately they replied and rejected the claim, leaving me £60 poorer but a great deal wiser. I just wanted to share this with the rest of the town so they don’t get caught out either.
