A CAR was left lying on its side after smashing through a fence at a petrol station.

The black Vauxhall crashed into company post boxes at the Shell petrol station in Albert Road, next to Farnworth Central Park.

Cashier Sarfaraz Saiyed said he heard a huge bang during the incident at around 6am on Sunday.

Mr Saiyed said: “Nobody was hurt but the driver ran off.

“He’s a young lad. There’s letter boxes outside and it’s broken them. He was going really fast.”

Mr Saiyed thought the car may have hit something else further up the road.

Witness, Adam New, said: "The car flipped over this morning at 5am. Also, the driver ran away."

The car landed on top some storage lockers in the grounds of the Shell garage as it was on its way down Albert Road from the direction of Bolton town centre.

John Robinson, who lives in Farnworth, was getting petrol on Sunday morning and saw the aftermath.

Mr Robinson said: “There were two police vans there, when I was there. According to them the car came across the park and he got out okay..”

The fire service were called to the scene at around 10.30am. Watch manager Carl Haslam confirmed there were reports of a young man running away from the scene.

It is not known if the driver sustained any injuries or if police have begun any criminal investigations.

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
