“CLARE’S Law” is the ground-breaking legislation that allows people to check if their partner has a history of violence.
The Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme was named after local woman Clare Wood who was murdered by her former partner in 2009. Bolton Coroner Jennifer Leeming was instrumental in its creation.
More than 270 people have now taken advantage of this law, which might indicate the frightening scope of domestic abuse. It certainly helps highlight the problem, and is another valuable step in aiding women both in recognising potential abusers and in removing themselves from harm.
