SATURDAY'S ‘Derby with No Name’ victory at Daisy Hill prompted delirious scenes at the end of the game for all associated with the Atherton Collieries club.

After an evening of joyous reflection Sunday was all about the anticipation of who were going to be the next opponents in the second round proper.

At this stage of the tournament there are 128 teams remaining and is where the final seeded teams enter the arena.By my calculation six games away from Wembley.

I don’t think any of the teams remaining will be ordering their suits yet.

Back to Sunday, I had a text off Chris Lawton, our old centre half, and he asked me who I wanted.

My reply was a home game against anybody but I thought we would draw 1874 Northwich.

Don’t ask me why.

He is now plying his trade at Runcorn Town and they are another of the seven NWCFL teams left in the hat.

I told him they would get drawn up the North East again.

Draw day was Monday after midday. So that meant everybody started looking on the FA Vase website at 12 on the dot.

This draw wasn’t done live on TV like the FA Cup last week.

Last week's first round draw was live from inside a dome at the flagship St George’s Park with Phil Neville and a lady grassroots coach doing the honours.

They did a cracking job but not even Derren Brown or Uri Geller could have predicted this random pairing. Hopefully the Vase ties are picked out of the traditional silk bag rather than that new-fangled number they use for goggle box appearances.

Can you imagine the number of hits on the FA website with both the Trophy and Vase draws occurring at the same time?

In the past this has led to the site crashing. The clubs are champing at the bit to know who they play and there always seems to be that little delay in announcing the match-ups.

This only cranks up the tension and has the internet companies rubbing their hands with glee as data usage shoots through the roof.

Eventually around 1pm our vice chairman texted me that the fixtures were out. We had drawn Seaham Red Star at home.

We have form with Red Star as on Saturday August 27, 2006, they beat us 2-0 in the opening round of the FA Cup.

Seaham is a few miles away from Sunderland in County Durham and the journey there was a nightmare as the coach wasn’t really up to the job.

For some long forgotten reason I wasn’t at the match but I was told we got what we deserved on the day football wise.

Bet Victor’s outright FA Vase odds have the Northern League Division Two outfit at 100/1 to lift the Toby Jug (I mean Vase.) to our 40/1.

We were 80/1 at the beginning of last week and got cut to 66/1 prior to Saturday.

The odds were adjusted again on Monday night. Joint 23rd favourites to return home from Wembley in triumph and an open-top bus parade round Atherton.

Not Ossie’s Dream, Emil’s Dream (we are all allowed them, we have usually been knocked out before the clocks go back).

The traffic chaos around the town would have to improve mind.

Seriously though, the North East is the powerhouse area of football at our level and our visitors will be a very good outfit.

My 1874 Northwich prediction was wrong but I was right about Runcorn Town having to go up to the North East. They will visit Shildon who are joint favourites to win the competition.

At odds of 8/1 in a 128-horse race Victor’s not giving much value there!
