Give Newport Street a colour makeover
CAN you cheer up a town centre too much?
Some residents seem to think so about proposed plans for Newport Street in Bolton town centre.
A £3 million project to revitalise this area is long overdue. The combination of closed shops, uneven paving and a general air of decay is miserable for residents and traders and a poor image for visitors walking from the new transport interchange.
Unfortunately, not everyone likes the Council’s idea of painting shops orange, blue, yellow or pink. Sorry, but I do – the street urgently needs a makeover so let’s go for a splash of colour.
