IT was brilliant to see Wanderers join in with all the shock FA Cup results this weekend – but in his heart of hearts, Neil Lennon will know he got a lucky break from referee Kevin Friend.

As someone who loves to see the club doing well, I’m happy to see they got a hard-earned replay to put a few more quid in the coffers and maybe make another signing in the transfer window to help them towards the play-offs.

But Matt Mills should have been sent off. There might not have been a lot of contact on Lazar Markovic as he ran through on the edge of the box but it was enough to send him down and, for me, it was a free kick and what would have been a straight red card for denying a goalscoring opportunity.

Markovic was beyond the defender with the ball at his feet. Would he have done down unnecessarily? I think that’s the clue.

I think you saw a similar incident in the Blackburn Rovers v Swansea game. Kyle Bartley was given a red card on the advice of his assistant because Craig Pawson hadn’t got himself in the correct position. Had he done so, he would have seen it was six of one and half a dozen of the other.

Both instances show that had we been able to use video replays, a short delay in play would have seen us give the correct decision, even though it would have given Bolton a real mountain to climb at Anfield.

I wouldn’t say for one second that they did not deserve the result, though, because they worked very, very hard to get it.

The replay will be another big night at the Macron Stadium and then there is Crystal Palace waiting at Selhurst Park in the next round.

I was a bit disappointed with that draw, truth be told, because I’d pinned my hopes on West Ham coming to our place with Big Sam Allardyce in charge. How great would that have been?

He’s done a great job down there at the Boleyn Ground and it would have been great to welcome him back – I personally rue the day he left – but that’s football, I suppose.

It would be great to see the town turn out in force to give Wanderers a lift for the replay. The fans certainly did their job at Anfield and I’m sure a lot of the people who travelled to Merseyside want to see the job completed.

You get past the fourth round and all of a sudden Wembley doesn’t look too far away. But first thing’s first!
