APPRENTICESHIPS are very hot right now.

Politicians are desperate to promote them, while companies are falling over themselves left, right and centre, to tell the media about their latest schemes.

Engineering, banking, hair and beauty, building ... you name it, there's probably an apprenticeship you can do.

But I never thought you could do an apprenticeship at a fish and chip restaurant.

But Tasos — the larger than life boss at Olympus chippy — has only gone and done it, taking on four fresh faced apprentices to learn every aspect of running a successful restaurant.

They will try out every job in the place, from waiting on tables and frying fish to operating the till and doing the books.

It might not be one of the more traditional apprenticeships out there but Tasos doesn't miss a trick.

He's a canny businessman and knows that his scheme will not only help out some youngsters in the town, but also gain him some good publicity. It's win-win.

Lord Sugar's catchphrase on the Apprentice is 'You're fired!' — perhaps Tasos's should be 'You're fried!' Geddit?
