WHATEVER your football affiliations, there is no denying the power of what has happened to Salford City FC.
The football club won its first round match in the FA Cup, trouncing the professionals of Nottingham County FC 2-0 in an awe-inspiring match.
The semi-professional club, which plays in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, is 59 places away from Notts County in League Two.
Salford City FC was bought by five members of the famous “Class of ‘92” – the former Manchester United squad of players including Gary and Phil Neville, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt.
What happened next with the luminous group and their new club was chronicled in a brilliant TV series “The Class of ’92 – Out of Their League”. It revealed the ongoing passion they have for their sport, and their sometimes thorny transition to owners.
It has been a compelling journey – not just thanks to the latest amazing chapter but also revealing how the pure love of a sport can transform lives, whoever you are.
