SIR Bradley Wiggins may not be the only sportsman to declare Rivington Pike his favourite place to cycle but he’s probably the most famous.
Speaking as guest editor on Radio 4’s Today programme, the Olympic gold medallist and Tour de France winner said the 1,191 summit was his favourite spot to ride. The Euxton-based champion often uses the Pike for training when he’s at home, which will resonate with many other cyclists and other athletes who love this local landmark.
For many, it provides a regular, challenging route along with stunning scenery which changes and delights all year round. It’s popular with sportspeople and those just looking for a scenic walk.
And if you happen to see Sir Bradley pedalling away along its steep hills, lanes and bends, then aren’t we the lucky ones – both to have it on our doorstep and to see it so well-used by international champions.
