Full steam ahead for a genuine local attraction
IF you’ve never been to Bolton’s Steam Museum you’re missing a treat.
The museum, based in a former mill in Halliwell near Morrison’s, has the largest collection of working textile mill steam engines in the country. It’s run by enthusiasts who dedicate their time and energy to preserving the impressive giant machinery, and trying to ensure its important legacy continues.
The museum is open only a few times a year and was really busy when we took our four grandchildren along on an open day. Everyone was fascinated, and the volunteers were happy to explain everything and share their interest.
