I SUPPOSE it’s one of those great blind-spots we conveniently forget: alcohol has a high calorie content. In other words, it makes us fat.
Now there are renewed calls to include calorie-content on beer and wine bottles, which sounds like a sensible way to drive the message home.
Once you start equating, say, five pints of ordinary bitter with eating more than three hamburgers we just might start to realise we’re drinking ourselves fat. As new drinking guidelines are issued by the Chief Medical Officer, it may be time to take a fresh look at this “diet” and cut down.
