I’VE always loved and admired Scottish comedian Billy Connolly.
His humour is brilliantly inventive and, during his comedy performing heyday, he always looked like he was having as great a time as his audience.
He’s 73 now with his stand-up days behind him, but he has reinvented himself as both an actor (he was wonderful in the 2012 film Quartet and has shone in other movies) and a TV presenter.
Billy is back on our screens on Fridays with his ITV series Billy Connolly’s Tracks Across America which accompanies him across the US, highlighting unusual individuals and situations and glorying in them as always.
His current work is all the more remarkable when you remember that he has Parkinson’s Disease and prostate cancer. Whether Billy himself takes this into account these days it’s hard to say, but it’s wonderful to see someone like him who just loves life and discovery so much.
It puts the petty daily niggles into proper context, and adds to the admiration of a memorable individual.
