IT’S a great shame that pioneering and award-winning radio charity DBBC is set to close because of lack of funding.

Diversity in Barrier-Breaking Communications was set up in 1999 by Dorothy Martland who wanted to inspire people into further education and finding new careers using broadcasting as a tool.

It worked on many levels and encouraged abilities in all age groups, especially those lacking confidence who needed one-to-one coaching, helping thousands of local people to a more hopeful future.

It seems wrong that its own future and effectiveness is blighted by a lack of money. Dorothy and friends deserved better.
