IT was upsetting to see the report of vandalism and general damage to one of Rivington’s best-known beauty spots Liverpool Castle.

A group of visitors tore down trees, smashed bottles and left tents and a disgusting array of rubbish there overnight. This is a much-loved spot for walkers, dog-owners and family visits and to see it treated so disrespectfully is a disgrace.

However, it appears to highlight a bigger problem about the way some people treat the whole area and what can be done. Certainly more signs, rubbish bins and rangers are needed if this legacy is to be protected.
