THERE is much to annoy the average traveller in that excellent TV series The Hotel Inspector on Channel 5 on Wednesday evenings.

I’m not talking about the “inspector” of the title – award-winning hotelier Alex Polizzi – either. She is the often acerbic expert called in by failing hotels to try to rescue them from going under.

Mind you, if you heard some of the whingeing and moaning about Alex and her methods to achieve this you’d think she’d been foisted onto a successful business rather than coming to their rescue.

Some of the hoteliers featured do try your patience. Even though they know she’s a renowned expert, from a long line of hoteliers (the Forte family), and is definitely on their side and trying to help, she often has an uphill struggle to get them to take her advice. She even whacks in pivotal improvements at no cost to them, and still they grumble.

Ah well, Alex will soon sort them all out. Let’s hope there is ultimately a happy ending.
